The admission requirements can be grouped into two categories: previous studies (BSc degree requirements) and language requirements.

Scholarship applicants may also need to comply with further requirements, which can be found in the section about scholarships.

1. Degree requirements

All applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) before starting the master’s programme. The degree average must be over 75%.

In this list you can find the BSc degrees, broken down per study programmes, that are usually accepted without need for further evaluation:

  • Bioinformatics MSc: BSc degree in Molecular Bionics, or equivalent.
  • Computer Science Engineering MSc: BSc degree in Business Information Technology, Computer Science Engineering, IT Engineering, Software Information Technology, or equivalent
  • Info-Bionics Engineering MSc: BSc degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Molecular Bionics, or equivalent
  • Medical Biotechnology MSc: BSc degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medicine, Molecular Bionics, Image Analysis, or equivalent
  • Quantum Engineering MSc: BSc degree in Physics, Physicist-Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Molecular Bionics, or equivalent
  • Image Processing and Computer Vision MSc: BSc degree in Engineering Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Signal Processing, or equivalent

If you hold a BSc degree different from the ones listed above, the Admissions Committee will evaluate your eligibility as part of the admissions procedure.

The criteria for the evaluation of degrees, i.e. for deciding whether you are eligible to start the entrance examination procedure is having completed at least 50 ECTS in the following areas, broken down per study programme:

  • Bioinformatics MSc:
    • 80 credits in relevant background fields
  • Computer Science Engineering MSc:
    • natural sciences (analysis, algebra, probability, mathematical statistics, physics) - 20 ECTS
    • information technology (electronics, digital technology, measurement and control technology, computer architectures, operating systems, computer networks) - 15 ECTS
    • computational theory and programming (computational and algorithm theory, programming languages, programme design, software technology) - 15 ECTS
    • information systems (database management, knowledge representation, modelling, analysis, implementation of IT systems, IT security) - 15 ECTS
    • economics and humanities (economics, environmental protection, quality assurance, technical language, social sciences) - 15 ECTS
  • Info-Bionics Engineering MSc:
    • natural sciences (analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics, probability, mathematical statistics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular physics) - 30 ECTS
    • electronics and computer sciences (electronic circuits, electronic physics, signal processing, information theory, computational and algorithm theory, programming languages, programme design, digital systems, database management, bioinformatics) - 20 ECTS
    • biophysics and neuroscience (biophysics, genetics, neurobiology, basics of biological imaging, electrophysiology, biolaboratory measurements) - 15 ECTS
    • economics and humanities (economics, business economics, business management, history of science, law, other humanities) - 15 ECTS
  • Medical Biotechnology MSc:
    • natural sciences (analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics, probability, mathematical statistics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular physics)
    • electronics and computer sciences (electronic circuits, electronic physics, signal processing, information theory, computational and algorithm theory, programmuniing languages, programme design, digital systems, database management, bioinformatics)

    • economics and humanities (economics, business economics, business management, history of science, law, other humanities)
  • Quantum Engineering MSc
    • 80 credits in relevant background fields

2. Language requirements

In order to successfully complete the MSc programmes, you need a B2 level of English proficiency.

Therefore, you must have an English language certificate corresponding to B2 level of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

We accept the following language exams: TOEFL  iBT (with a score of 72 or above), Cambridge exams (ESOL, CELS, and IELTS with a score of 6.0 or above), ECL, Euroexam, LanguageCert ESOL, Oxford Test of English, Pearson Test of English (PTE), TOEIC, ECCE and ECPE (University of Michigan).

We do not accept Duolingo test results or placement tests taken at your previous university.

There are three cases in which you are not required to submit a language exam certificate (exemption):

  • if your mother tongue is English,
  • if you obtained your bachelor’s degree in a programme taught entirely in English (a certificate of the medium of instruction is required),
  • if you obtained your bachelor’s degree in a country where English is one of the official languages.
